Lexington Park, MD – Mike Evans is seeking a fifth-consecutive, four-year term as Calvert County Sheriff. First elected in 2002, Evans, a Republican, is an Army veteran and had a 17-year career as a trooper with the Maryland State Police (MSP). He spent 15 of those years in Calvert County. While with the MSP, Evans was a member of the agencyโs Special Tactical Assault Team Element, was a recipient of the MSP Superintendent’s Commendation for Extreme Courage and received the Prince Frederick Barrack Trooper of the Year Award. After retiring from the MSP, Evans worked for five years as a deputy sheriff assigned to the Calvert County Courthouse. Evans and Susan, his wife of 39 years, have two sons who are both MSP troopers, and four grandchildren.
Of the four elections in which Evans has been a candidate, the 2014 General Election was the closest, as he won re-election by slightly more than 600 votes in a race against Sgt. Craig Kontra. In the 2018 Republican Primary, Evans will be opposed by Kontra and political newcomer Kinsey Weems.
Recently, Evans sat down with TheBayNet.com to discuss his quest for another term and his vision for the future.
