Maryland Comptroller Lierman Joins 'Voices & Vision' Mixer Celebrating Women’s Leadership In Charles County

WALDORF, Md.Maryland Comptroller Brooke Lierman joined community leaders and advocacy organizations on Nov. 20 for “Voices & Vision,” a women’s leadership mixer hosted by the Charles County Commission for Women. The event recognized the impact of women leaders and promoted collaboration on civic and community issues across Southern Maryland.

The mixer was held in partnership with Coalition for Stronger Communities, Stella’s Girls, Inc., the Southern Maryland Chain (MD) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, and the Tri-County (MD) Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.

Held at The Space by LBI Collective in Waldorf, the event brought together community members, organizational leaders, and public officials to “Connect, Inspire, and Lead Together.”

Commission Chair Kaprece James opened the program by welcoming attendees and outlining the commission’s mission to advocate for women and families in Charles County. She noted that the mixer was designed both to celebrate women leaders and to strengthen collaboration among local organizations that serve women and girls.

A key highlight of the evening was the swearing-in of newly appointed commissioners, conducted by Maryland Comptroller Brooke Lierman. Lierman administered the oath of office to Ashira Vantrees, Chavonne Quarles-Stevenson, LaJuan Holeman, Michelle Simonds, Theresa Clark, and Candice Keys, formally welcoming them into service with the Commission for Women.

In her featured remarks, Lierman offered a statewide perspective from her office, focusing on issues affecting women, families, and communities — including economic opportunity, small business growth, and equity. She emphasized the importance of women’s leadership in shaping public policy and driving economic progress and highlighted the role of state and local partnerships in meeting community needs.

Following her address, attendees participated in a Q&A session, raising topics such as economic mobility, support for small and minority-owned businesses, and local investment strategies.

The program concluded with closing remarks and informal networking, giving guests additional time to connect with commissioners, partner organizations, and the comptroller.

The commission advocates for education, programs, and legislation, and serves as a link between women and community services.
