WALDORF, Md. — A Waldorf man faces identity fraud and assault charges after allegedly providing a false name to officers who discovered him hiding behind a business, then allegedly spitting on a correctional officer hours later at the Charles County Detention Center, according to court records. Jerome Anthony Warren, 64, reportedly told deputies he was “Early Anthony Baltimore” when they found him lying between bushes at a Berry Road address on Sept. 11, 2025.
According to charging documents, deputies responded around 10:30 a.m. for a report of a suspicious person. The caller reportedly stated someone had been lying on the ground between bushes located at the rear of a business. Upon arrival, officers allegedly made contact with Warren, who provided the name “Early Anthony Baltimore” with a birth date of May 29, 1968.
Court records show Warren gave this information freely and without coercion. The Charles County Sheriff’s Office communications division reportedly informed officers that “Baltimore” was a false name previously associated with Warren. Communications also allegedly advised that Warren had an active arrest warrant, according to court filings.
Deputies say they were able to confirm Warren’s true identity by accessing his photograph in the Charles County Sheriff’s Office database. Authorities allege Warren was then placed in custody after the warrant was confirmed to be active. Warren was reportedly asked multiple times during the investigation whether “Baltimore” was his real name and repeatedly stated that it was.
Court records indicate Warren was given several opportunities to correct his identity but refused to do so until after officers confirmed who he was and placed him under arrest. The charging documents state this was not the first time Warren allegedly used the “Early Anthony Baltimore” alias, with officers reportedly noting that the name had been associated with him in prior law enforcement contacts.
Officers recount that the situation later escalated while Warren was in custody at the Charles County Detention Center. According to court documents filed Sept. 17, 2025, Warren was being escorted to a jail cell around 2:17 p.m. on Sept. 11 when he allegedly became loud and verbally abusive toward correctional officers. A correctional officer reportedly heard yelling from near jail cell 6 and observed Warren arguing with other officers about entering the cell.
Warren was handcuffed behind his back and escorted to a bench in the intake area, where he was secured. He allegedly continued to be loud and refused commands. When correctional officers turned to leave the area, Warren reportedly spat toward them, striking one officer on the right forearm. The incident was recorded on the detention center’s surveillance system, according to charging documents.
Warren was positively identified by correctional officers at the facility. Deputy P. Prichard of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office investigated the detention center assault after responding to the facility on Sept. 12, 2025.
Warren now faces three criminal charges, including fraudulent personal identification to avoid prosecution, second-degree assault, and assault on a Department of Corrections employee. Fraudulent personal identification carries a maximum penalty of three years imprisonment and a fine of up to $5,000 under Maryland law if convicted. Second-degree assault carries a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment and a $2,500 fine if convicted. Assault on a correctional facility employee carries additional penalties specific to attacks on detention center staff.
Court records show Warren was released on his own recognizance on the identity fraud charge and is represented by the Charles County Public Defender’s Office. A trial on the identity fraud charge is scheduled for Nov. 4, 2025, in Charles County District Court. A preliminary inquiry for the assault charges is scheduled for Nov. 3, 2025, at 9 a.m. in Charles County District Courtroom 3.
Deputy B. Duehring investigated the original identity fraud case for the Charles County Sheriff’s Office. The State’s Attorney’s Office for Charles County is prosecuting the charges in La Plata District Court.
