WALDORF, Md. — Detectives with the Charles County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Wednesday, July 3, 2025, in Waldorf. The incident has been classified as a homicide.

At approximately 4:23 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 3000 block of October Place following a report of an unconscious male lying outside the door of an apartment unit. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male with a gunshot wound to the upper body. Emergency medical personnel rendered aid, but the man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The victim has since been identified by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner as David Leroy Raley, 47, of Waldorf. His body was transported to Baltimore for autopsy.

Authorities have not yet released any information regarding potential suspects, motives, or whether the incident is believed to be targeted or random. The shooting occurred in a densely populated residential area, and investigators are seeking any witnesses or surveillance footage from the surrounding vicinity.
