WALDORF, Md. — A Waldorf man is facing a firearm charge after authorities recovered a handgun during the execution of a search warrant at a residence in Charles County.
Malachi Hernandez, 18, of Waldorf, has been charged with possession of a firearm by a minor, according to court documents.
The charge stems from a March 25, 2026 investigation at a home in Waldorf, where members of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office and the Metropolitan Police Department executed a search and seizure warrant related to an ongoing investigation.
According to charging documents, members of the Emergency Services Team made entry into the residence and secured all occupants. Hernandez was located inside an upstairs bedroom and taken into custody without incident.
During a search of the residence, investigators recovered a Taurus G3 9mm handgun from a closet in the master bedroom.
Authorities noted that Hernandez is prohibited from possessing a regulated firearm due to his age, as he is under 21.
A family member told investigators they were unaware a firearm was inside the home.
Court records show Hernandez was held without bond following a review before Judge John P. McKenna in Charles County District Court.
A trial is scheduled for May 13, 2026, in Charles County District Court.
