ODENTON, Md. — A Waldorf man is facing a handgun charge after an Anne Arundel County police officer found a gun in his pickup during a traffic stop in Odenton on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2025.
Shortly after 11:15 a.m., Officer R. Brooks-Harris with the Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Western District pulled over a silver Toyota Tundra near Annapolis Road and Piney Orchard Parkway. As the officer approached, he saw the driver reaching toward the back seat.
A subsequent search led to the seizure of a Kel-Tec SUB-2000 folding carbine. The driver, identified as Joe Tyrone Gardner Jr., 46, of Waldorf, was taken into custody.
Gardner is charged with one count of having a handgun in a vehicle, a misdemeanor under Maryland law. He was released on his own recognizance following a bail review the same day.
Gardner is scheduled for a trial on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2026, at the District Court in Annapolis, in Courtroom 3 before Judge H. Richard Duden III.

I guess AA county doesn’t teach their officers the difference between a handgun and a carbine..This is not a handgun, it fits the definition of a rifle.
Will be out immediately. Not a handgun 16 inch barrel makes it a rifle
