LA PLATA, Md. — A Waldorf man is facing felony narcotics charges after a traffic stop in La Plata led deputies to discover suspected drugs, cash, and drug distribution materials inside his vehicle.

Larry Eugene Swann, 43, of Waldorf, was arrested on March 3, 2026, following a traffic stop conducted by the Charles County Sheriff’s Office along Crain Highway.

According to charging documents, at approximately 9:01 p.m. a deputy observed a white Ford Focus approaching the intersection of Crain Highway and Hawthorne Road when the vehicle’s center brake light failed to illuminate while the driver applied the brakes. The deputy initiated a traffic stop and the vehicle pulled into the entrance of the CVS Pharmacy located at 6260 Crain Highway in La Plata.

When the deputy approached the vehicle, he immediately recognized the driver as Swann from previous police contact. Another deputy asked the driver for his name, and Swann allegedly identified himself as “Terrell Allen Wade” and provided a date of birth.

Investigators reported the name and date of birth were false. A records check later confirmed Swann had active warrants through both Charles County and Prince George’s County.

Swann was taken into custody and a search of his person was conducted. Deputies located a small bag containing a white powdery substance in his pocket. Swann reportedly told deputies the substance was “down,” which investigators believed to be heroin or fentanyl.

During the search, authorities also located foil containing brown residue and a metal container with white residue.

Deputies then searched a jacket that had been sitting in the driver’s seat. Inside the jacket pocket, investigators found a larger bag containing a mixture of white powder and rocky material believed to be crack cocaine. The amount recovered was reportedly greater than what deputies typically associate with personal use.

Authorities also discovered a bank sleeve containing $1,052 in cash and a “push rod,” a tool commonly used with smoking devices to pack crack cocaine.

A camouflage backpack located on the passenger-side floorboard contained additional suspected crack cocaine along with a digital scale with white residue and Swann’s wallet.

Swann was transported to the Charles County Detention Center without incident. The encounter and arrest were captured on body-worn camera.

Swann was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute and making a false statement to a peace officer.

Court records show Swann was released on his own recognizance on March 4, 2026.

A preliminary hearing is set for March 27, 2026 in Charles District Court.
