WALDORF, Md. – Less than 24 hours after a vehicle slammed into the side of Nick’s of Clinton, the beloved family-owned grocery and deli is back open for business and expressing gratitude for the community’s outpouring of support.
In a statement posted to social media on the morning of October 15, the store wrote, “WE ARE OPEN!!! It will take more than a hole in our wall to keep us down. We are thankful to God that there were no injuries in the accident that occurred yesterday.”
The crash happened around 1:25 p.m. October 14, 2025, when a 60-year-old driver struck the side of the building along Route 5, damaging a section of the exterior wall and knocking over shelves inside. Emergency responders quickly secured the scene and confirmed there were no injuries.

By Wednesday morning, Liberty Construction crews had already completed repairs that allowed the business to reopen safely. “We are surrounded by such a loyal and loving community and grateful to be a part of it,” the store’s post continued, thanking first responders and construction workers for their swift response.
The quick recovery reflects both the resilience of a longtime local business and the community that rallied behind it. Customers began returning shortly after reopening, many stopping by to show their support and share relief that no one was hurt.
The cause of Tuesday’s crash remains under investigation by local authorities.
