William Howard Hall of Chaptico, MD, passed away on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 2025, at the age of 95.

Billy was born in Hurry, MD on July 7, 1930. He was the oldest son born to the late Peter Paul Hall and Agnes Virginia Burroughs Hall.

He was the loving husband of Helen Teresa Moran, whom he married on June 2, 1956, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bryantown, MD. They celebrated 61 years of marriage until her death on November 11, 2017.

Billy is survived by his loving and faithful children: Catherine Marie (Cathy) Oliver (Jimmy) of Bushwood, Patricia Ann (Patty) Wathen (Timmy) of California MD, William “Wayne” Hall (Eva) and Dennis Martin Hall, both of Chaptico. He is also survived by his youngest brother, John Edward “Puddin” Hall of Chaptico and his grandchildren: Willie Oliver (Kim), Steven Oliver (Lydia), Stacey Wathen Fluharty (Matt), Karen Wathen, April Hall Brooks (Collin), Rachel Hall, Beau Hall (Alexis), Sam Hall (Anna) and his 11 great grandchildren: Kirsten, Lucas, Kyle, Ava, Bennett, Layla, Jake, Jolene, Luna, River, and Harlow. He was predeceased by his daughter in law, Barbara Earnshaw Hall and his brothers Peter Paul “Possum” Hall Jr. and James Henry “Jackson” Hall.

On March 15, 1956, he was drafted into the United State Navy. He celebrated his 26th birthday on the Panama Canal. He served aboard the USS Wisconsin and toured France, Scotland, Chile and participated in the line crossing ceremony as a Pollywog where he received a subpoena to appear before King Neptune and participated in NATO exercises in the Atlantic Ocean, North Sea, and the Artic Circle. He was honorably discharged on November 1, 1957 to return home to family and farming.

He dearly loved his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and his brothers who formed a farming partnership as Hall Brothers before branching out on their own family farms. He also worked for Billy Guy as a dump truck driver while the beltway was being constructed and for Frankie Lacey Masonry in his later years. He loved watching baseball, rooting for the Nationals and the Orioles.

As our family historian, he would tell us stories about his childhood and our ancestors and life before electricity and indoor plumbing and his years at Sacred Heart School, graduating in 1944. He was a devoted and lifelong parishioner of Sacred Heart Church.

He would say “I haven’t been lucky, I’ve been blessed”
