CALIFORNIA, Md. — A Cambridge woman was arrested on multiple assault and weapons charges after allegedly waving a knife at hotel patrons and attempting to force entry into a guest’s room during a late-night disturbance at Sleep Inn & Suites in St. Mary’s County.

On Feb. 17, 2025, at approximately 11:06 p.m., Maryland State Police troopers responded to reports of a woman yelling in the hotel lobby while brandishing a knife.

According to court documents, troopers arrived at the scene and identified the woman as Shyla Marie Moore, 18, who admitted to waving a knife toward people inside the hotel before discarding it behind the building.

Witnesses stated that Moore had gone upstairs to confront the father of her child and attempted to gain access to a hotel room where she believed he was staying. When told that he was not inside, she allegedly swung the knife at an individual standing at the door, prompting them to quickly shut it to prevent her from entering.

After the confrontation, Moore was seen walking down the hallway while continuing to wave the knife toward guests before being informed that police had been called.

Troopers took Moore into custody, and she was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center, where she was held without bond following her initial court appearance before Judge James Tanavage on Feb. 19, 2025.

Moore is facing multiple charges, including two counts of first-degree assault, which carry a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison per count; two counts of second-degree assault, each punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $2,500 fine; and one count of possessing a dangerous weapon with intent to injure, which carries a penalty of up to three years in prison and a $1,000 fine.

Her next scheduled court appearance is set for March 18, 2025, in St. Mary’s District Court.
