ACCIDENT REPORTED IN CHARLOTTE HALL
UPDATE: 6:39 p.m. – Northbound lane has been opened, helicopter in route to the medical trauma center.
Today at approximately 5:50 p.m. an accident occurred on Route 5 in the area of Charlotte Hall School Road. (Near the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home).
One individual is currently trapped in a vehicle. A helicopter has been sent to the scene to transport a passenger with injuries.
It has been reported by St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Department at 6:19 p.m. that the southbound lanes have been closed. Evening commuters should expect several emergency units on the scene in this area.
Southbound lanes have been closed and it is possible the Northbound lanes will have to close for the helicopter to land. Avoid this area if possible. If you are traveling on Route 5 expect delays and congestion.
