LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — The Tackle Box, one of St. Mary’s County’s most recognizable small businesses, is officially under new ownership, but longtime customers will still see a familiar face behind the counter.

On Monday, Oct. 6, 2025, Ken Lamb announced that he has transferred ownership of the Lexington Park fishing and hunting store to Ben and Heather Windsor, who have worked alongside him for the past 30 years. Lamb will stay on as vice president and continue his daily routine at the shop, a role he has kept since his teenage years.

Founded in 1960 by Lamb’s parents, Howard and Lena, The Tackle Box began as a Navy family’s dream to serve local anglers and hunters with quality gear and advice. The Lambs moved to St. Mary’s County in 1958 when Howard was stationed at Patuxent River Naval Air Station, and the store quickly became a landmark for outdoor enthusiasts.

“I started working here when I was 13,” Ken said in a past interview, recalling how he grew up in the shop before serving a stint in the U.S. Navy himself. “I like meeting people. I like to work.”

Over the decades, The Tackle Box has evolved alongside the community, from its early surf-fishing days to today’s boat-based and recreational fishing scene. Although St. Mary’s County has grown and changed, Ken remains committed to keeping the shop’s welcoming, small-town feel alive.

Ben and Heather Windsor said they plan to maintain that same tradition, offering the dependable products, local knowledge and personal service generations of customers have come to expect.

The shop’s long-standing traditions remain intact. The Tackle Box’s weekly Fishing Report, a Southern Maryland staple, will continue as usual.
