  1. The Calvert Animal Welfare League is an all volunteer, non-profit rescue organization. We get no funding from the state or county. Our adoption fees are less than some other rescue organizations. Vet bills have doubled on us over this last year and we do not make money on our animals. All our animals are spayed/neutered, fully vaccinated, wormed and microchipped. The Humane Society of Calvert’s adoption fee is $400 and not $150. We, as they do, understand the costs involved in vetting our animals. We strive to give our animals individual attention and lots of playtime and walks 4 times a day. So, we get to know their personalities. We will also match you up to that perfect companion for you. I only wish we would have been contacted prior to this article so that we could have given some input about our rescue.

  2. regarding your article on animal shelters, there is some incorrect or left out information. The Humane Society charges $400 for adoption. Calvert Animal Welfare League charges $300 for dogs and $350 for puppies. 100% of our staff are volunteers, who care for our dogs daily, feeding, walking and playing with them 5 times a day. We do not make money on our dogs. The fees cover their spay and neuter and all of their needed meds. We rely on donations of money and food to keep our dogs healthy. We are very picky when it comes to adoption. Certain criteria must be met, for example, some dogs require a fenced yard. A meet and greet is held if the family has other pets, and all family members must attend. Mr Caruso, I would suggest you research your subject more thoroughly.
