ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Annapolis Police Department is proud to announce the appointment of Captain Guy Thacker, who was officially sworn in on March 13th, 2025. Captain Thacker brings with him an impressive 32 years of experience as a police officer, having served most recently with the Baltimore Police Department. He retired from the Baltimore Police Department reaching the rank of Lt. Colonel.
Captain Thacker possesses a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and Public Administration, awarded Cum Laude. Further, he holds a Master’s degree in Management, and has completed the Police Executive Leadership Program at Johns Hopkins University. He has also earned a degree from the University of Maryland University College (UMUC) in the Public Safety Leadership Program.
A significant portion of Captain Thacker’s career was dedicated to SWAT operations in Baltimore. During his 24 year tenure with the SWAT team, he honed his leadership skills, serving 17 years as an officer and 7 years as a sergeant. His extensive experience in high-pressure situations and tactical operations makes him a valuable addition to the Annapolis Police Department.
Captain Thacker comes to Annapolis with high recommendations from his colleagues in Baltimore. He is known for his reliability, problem-solving skills, and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
