DUNKIRK, Md. — Local nonprofit Huntin’ With Jacob is now taking applications for its second annual Jacob Tyler Howes Memorial Scholarship.
The scholarship is open to all high school seniors and graduated juniors in Calvert, St. Mary’s, and Charles counties. Home-school students are also eligible, and all applicants must be planning to pursue a certification or licensure from an accredited school.
The deadline to submit an application is midnight, March 15, 2026. The recipient will be announced by Huntin’ With Jacob on April 1. The application is online, and applicants should plan to provide information about themselves, their education, and fill in short-answer questions about their plans and aspirations in the trades, as well as background and hobbies that make them an ideal candidate.
The application can be found on the Huntin’ With Jacob scholarship page.
Huntin’ With Jacob is a nonprofit that aims to serve families in the community who’ve dealt with hardships and tragedies brought on by mental health struggles or other life-altering events. Howes was a Dunkirk native who passed away at the age of 19. Loved ones formed the organization to help those in need, using the restorative power of the great outdoors.
In addition to their scholarships, Huntin’ With Jacob offers events throughout the year, including a recent youth hunting gear clothing swap. You can see their full list of events and learn more about the organization on their website.
