The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating an arson fire that destroyed a car in Nanjemoy. A passing motorist alerted authorities to the fire on Riverside Road at Budds Ferry Road at shortly after midnight Wednesday.
The Nanjemoy VFD responded to the call and put the fire out in five minutes. Damage to the 2007 Kia Rio owned by Samantha Hergett is estimated at $5,000.
According to Deputy Fire Marshal John Nelson, “Unknown suspect(s) ignited combustible material on the interior and then abandoned the vehicle on the side of the road. Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to contact the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office Southern Region at 443-550-6833.”
