LEONARDTOWN, Md. — On Sunday afternoon, readers will have the opportunity to step into a story that continues to stir conversation long after the final page is turned.
Author Leslie Ledonne will host a book signing event for her true-crime book “Killing Henrietta” on Sunday, March 15, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Social Coffeehouse and Cocktail Bar, where guests can meet Ledonne, discuss the book and learn more about the haunting unsolved case that inspired it.
“Killing Henrietta” explores the complex investigation surrounding Henrietta Ragan’s tragic death, weaving together interviews, research and long-buried details that reveal the layers behind the case. According to Ledonne, many readers are surprised by just how intricate the story becomes.
“In my opinion, what surprises readers the most is the complexity of the investigation and the depth of the subject matter,” Ledonne told The BayNet. “On a local level, people are surprised by how many of the names and locations are familiar to them.”
For Ledonne, the decision to tell Henrietta’s story came after she was given access to the remaining documentation surrounding the case — often referred to as the “Murder Book.”
“The moment that I felt I had to tell Henrietta’s story was when I opened the windfall contents of the ‘Murder Book’ given to me by Mr. Ocean City,” Ledonne explained. “This was all that was left of her murder to validate what was done to her, by whom and why. I vowed not to let Henrietta be forgotten ever again.”

Through interviews with individuals connected to the case, Ledonne wrote many of the conversations and dialogue exactly as they were presented to her. While several people were willing to share their experiences, she noted that learning about Henrietta’s early life proved more difficult.
Beyond recounting the investigation itself, Ledonne hopes readers walk away remembering the human story behind the tragedy.
“I’m hoping that everyone will close the last page of ‘Killing Henrietta’ and not forget her,” Ledonne said. “Henrietta was willing to make a change in herself and her choices, which ultimately cost her her life. ‘Killing Henrietta’ showcases the ultimate importance and value of truth, honor and integrity.”
Since the book’s release, Ledonne said the response from readers has been powerful, reaching well beyond the local community.
“Reader reactions have been very supportive, not just locally, but from across the country and beyond,” Ledonne said. “Several people have remarked that if we change the names and the town, it could be anywhere.”
The upcoming event at Social Coffeehouse and Cocktail Bar will give readers the chance to meet Leslie Ledonne, discuss the case behind “Killing Henrietta” and have copies of the book signed.
