PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — Looking for the best places to shop in Southern Maryland? Whether you’re in St. Mary’s, Charles or Calvert counties — or nearby — there are several standout malls and marketplaces worth the trip.

While the region doesn’t have an overwhelming number of traditional indoor malls, it does offer a mix of shopping centers, markets and retail hubs that combine dining, entertainment and unique finds all in one place. Here’s a guide to the best large-scale shopping destinations in Southern Maryland and the surrounding counties.

Chesapeake MarketPlace (Calvert County)

The Chesapeake MarketPlace & Auction House offers around 100 distinct shops, many of which sell antique items that you won’t often find elsewhere. Books and crafts are also available at the Chesapeake MarketPlace, so it’s a much more unique experience than a traditional shopping mall.

Occasionally, the Chesapeake MarketPlace even switches out its stores to add regular variety for customers. It’s worth a visit if you like big shopping centers and you live in Calvert County.

Known as the most prominent shopping mall in Southern Maryland, St. Charles Towne Center is the perfect fit if you’re located in or near Charles County. This center has a variety of clothing stores, a Bath & Body Works and even a Build-A-Bear Workshop.

Grab a snack at Auntie Anne’s Pretzels or choose from a variety of other restaurants located on-site. If you’d rather relax at the movies, then AMC Theatres has you covered. For a classic shopping experience, the St. Charles Towne Center is by far the best mall in Southern Maryland.

Westfield Annapolis Mall (Anne Arundel County)

Dozens of popular stores and AMC Theatres are available at the Westfield Annapolis Mall. Visitors can explore shops like Ann Taylor, Champs Sports and Hot Topic, so there’s no shortage of clothing to browse.

For secondary activities, there’s a Build-A-Bear Workshop and a Kako Claw store, allowing each person to create or earn their own plushie. The Westfield Annapolis Mall is one of the best shopping malls in the state, and it’s located fairly close to the Southern Maryland area.

Bath & Body Works, GameStop, Claire’s and even Five Below are in the mix at the Mall at Prince George’s, so you’ll find everything from body care products to fun toys for children.

If you’re hungry for something to eat, then California Grill and a variety of other on-site restaurants provide a wealth of delicious choices. Whether you’re looking for an afternoon of shopping, dining or simply entertainment, the Mall at Prince George’s has every visitor covered with its long list of popular businesses.
