WALDORF, MD – The Blue Crabs looked to kick-start the series opener against York with a win on Friday but fell in extras to the Revolution 6-3. Brian Grening was the starter for Southern Maryland but did not factor in the outcome despite three runs being charged to him.

Both teams traded runs early as York struck in the first when Jared Mitchell scored on a fielderโ€™s choice. The Crabs immediately answered with two runs of their own with a bases loaded RBI single by Zach Wilson.

York closed the one run lead with a one run third inning in thanks to a Michael Rockett RBI single. The Crabs returned the favor in the fifth with a solo home run by Gary Brown.

The Revolution came back in the seventh to make it a 3-3 contest on a Josh Wilson solo home run.

Nine innings would not be enough as the game was decided in the tenth off of Southern Marylandโ€™s Craig Stem, who allowed three runs to score โ€“ two on a RBI triple by Kevin Rivers and one on a RBI single by Michael Rockett.

Both starters had no decision in the outcome as Blue Crabs starter Brian Grening went 6.2 innings, allowing three but striking out five. Micah Owings tossed six full for York, also allowing three runs. Mike DeMark closed the game for York.

Game two of the contest comes tomorrow at 6:35 PM in Waldorf, as lefty Frank Gailey toes the rubber for York and righty Tim Sexton goes for the Blue Crabs.
