BRIDGEPORT, CT – The Bluefish and the Blue Crabs played game one of a holiday weekend four game series with Southern Maryland coming out on top 8-5.

Down 1-0 heading into the top of the second, Southern Maryland scored four runs on two outs.ย  Eric Garcia drove in two with an RBI single.ย  Gary Brown and Steve Lombardozzi both hit back to back doubles to make it 4-1 Southern Maryland.ย  Michael Snyder hit his sixth homerun of the season in the top of the third.

The Blue Crabs added insurance runs in the top of the eighth on a Gustavo Molina two run single.ย  LHP Brian Burres worked into the eighth inning, but allowed two runs in the eighth on a Luis Hernandez triple and a Wellington Dotel single.ย  That spelled the end of the night for Burres who held Bridgeport scoreless for five straight innings.ย  RHP Justin Berg came out of the bullpen and gave up an RBI single to Jonathan Galvez, but retired the next two hitters to pick up the hold.

Southern Maryland added one more run in the ninth to bring the score to itsโ€™ final of 8-5.ย  With the win, Southern Maryland snaps their four game losing streak.ย  Eric Garcia went 2-4 on the night and has now extended his hitting streak to nine games to tie Zach Wilson for the second longest hitting streak of the year by a Blue Crab.

Game two of the series will take place in Bridgeport tonight.ย  The first pitch is set for 6:12 P.M.
