CALLAWAY, Md. — What started as a longtime love of bargain hunting for Layla Ratliff is about to become a storefront of her own. The Southern Maryland entrepreneur is set to open a new women’s and juniors resale boutique July 1, offering shoppers a place to buy trendy, gently used clothing while also earning money for items they no longer wear.
Babes & Bargains was founded by Layla Ratliff, who said the idea grew out of her longtime love of bargain hunting and resale shopping.
In an interview with The BayNet, Ratliff told us how her dream arose and the inspiration behind it.
“I’ve always loved shopping, especially finding a great deal,” she said. “For years, I would travel to visit consignment and resale shops to both buy and sell clothing. What started as a running joke with my family about opening my own store eventually became a dream I couldn’t ignore.”
Before securing a storefront, Layla tested the concept through small pop-up events, which she said were met with strong community support.

“I began hosting small pop-up events while searching for the perfect retail space, and the response confirmed that this was something our community wanted and needed,” Ratliff said. “Babes & Bargains was created from my passion for affordable fashion, sustainability, and helping women feel confident without overspending.”
In addition to resale apparel, the boutique will carry a variety of giftable items and accessories, expanding its appeal beyond clothing alone. Shoppers can expect boutique-style extras ranging from jewelry and sunglasses to candles, decorative pieces, and cards for special occasions.

To mark the grand opening, the store plans to reward early customers and host a giveaway.
“We’re so excited for opening day! The first 50 customers will receive 15% off their purchase,” she said. In addition, every customer who makes a purchase will be entered into a raffle for a chance to win a $100 Babes & Bargains gift card. “We can’t wait to celebrate with the community and make it a fun and memorable day for everyone who walks through our doors.”

Ratliff said the boutique’s mission extends beyond fashion and savings, with an emphasis on creating opportunity and giving back locally.
“Babes & Bargains is about more than fashion, it’s about community. We’re providing a place where women and teens can earn money by selling clothing, shoes, and accessories they no longer wear.”
She added that the store plans to donate unsold items to local women’s shelters and organizations on a quarterly basis, reinforcing its focus on sustainability and service.
“My hope is that Babes & Bargains becomes a welcoming space where people feel excited to shop, supported when they sell, and proud to be part of something that gives back,” Ratliff said.
