PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — Calvert County’s Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) approved the county’s public transportation 2026 fiscal year budget at the March 3 meeting, totaling more than $1.3 million between grants and local, state and federal funds.

The department applies for grants annually to seek federal and state funding in order to support continued operations and the purchase of capital assets for the county’s public transportation system. The BOCC signed off on the application process in March 2025. The fiscal year 2026 operating grant award consists of $559,494 in federal funds, $289,739 in state funds and $527,623 in local funds, for a total program budget of $1,376,856. These funds support the daily operations of the transportation system.

The capital grant award for FY 2026 consists of $601,255 in federal funds, $37,576 in state funds and $112,738 in local funds, for a total capital budget of $751,569. These funds provide funding for bus replacement, preventive maintenance, fuel depot construction and transfer station design and engineering.

According to a memo from Jennifer Moreland, director of community resources, state and local funds have all been previously approved in the fiscal year 2026 adopted budget.

The BOCC signed off through the consent agenda process on the Department of Transportation’s request that they approve the budget.
