White Plains, MD – A car parked in a garage sparked a fire the damaged another vehicle and a portion of the garage, state investigators reported.ย According to the Maryland State Fire Marshalโs Office, the blaze occurred shortly before midnight Wednesday, Oct. 21 at a residence on Marshall Corner Road in White Plains.
โThe accidental fire began in the passenger compartment of the 2003 BMW, which then spread to a nearby 2004 Infiniti,โ Dfm. Melissa Decker stated. โThe fire also caused exposure damage to the front of the garage attached to the single-family residence. There was no damage to the interior of the residence nor were there any injuries as a result of the fire.โ
Thirty volunteer firefighters from Waldorf, Bel Alton, La Plata, Marbury and Potomac Heights were dispatched to the one-alarm blaze and brought the flames under control in 10 minutes.
The fire was discovered by the homeowners. The estimated damage is $50,000.
The fire marshalโs office identified the homeowners and occupants as Nada Duckett, Terrell Buchannan, and Kevin and Ronda Grenier.
