LA PLATA, Md. — The Charles County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday, Sept. 30, approved the donation of a one-acre wooded parcel on Mount Eagle Lane in Waldorf to support the county’s emergency communications network.

Victoria Rickett, assistant property acquisition officer with the county’s Property Acquisition and Right-of-Way Department, told commissioners that Dr. Siamack Bahrami — a former county resident and physician — offered the lot to the county because it is unbuildable under current zoning rules.

Rickett said the Department of Emergency Services had been seeking an appropriate site for a new communications tower to strengthen the county’s public-safety coverage and determined the Mount Eagle Lane location meets its needs.

“The wooded one-acre lot is just off Bryantown Road in the Mount Eagle subdivision and will make a perfect location for the new tower,” Rickett told the board. She said all required due-diligence steps have been completed and the county is ready to accept the donation and proceed with the transfer.

The new tower will support the county’s public-safety radio network, which links 911 dispatchers with firefighters, paramedics, sheriff’s deputies and other first responders. By improving radio coverage in parts of Waldorf and nearby rural areas, the tower is expected to reduce dead zones and help emergency crews communicate more reliably during routine calls and large-scale incidents.

Commissioners voted unanimously to approve the transfer. The land will be used to expand the county’s emergency communications infrastructure once the tower project is ready to begin.
