Charlotte Hall, MD – On June 11, 2016, John Curran, a familiar face at Charlotte Hall, received the “Elks National Veterans Service Commission Veteran Volunteer Award 2015- 2016″.
John is a 50-year member of the Elks and a member of Calvert Lodge 2620 in Prince Frederick for the last 16 years.
John has donated thousands of hours to our veterans in those 16 years and has previously been nominated our “Volunteer of the Year”. Last year, he volunteered over 150 hours and as of June 1 has already donated over 110 hours. John currently volunteers in our Gift Shop, but has taught computer and photography classes, and is now involved in supporting our Music and Memory program.
John also submits a newsworthy article about Charlotte Hall Veterans Home every month to the Elks newsletter. He is the VSO at Calvert Elks for our veterans and has been instrumental in donations of over $5,000, dinner outings for residents, and Christmas gifts. John and his wife, Carol, dress up every year as Santa and Mrs. Clause and John is our faithful Easter Bunny. John said he loves to visit our residents and his passion for them shows in everything that he does.
