CHESAPEAKE BEACH, Md. — The Chesapeake Beach Water Park project is continuing on schedule so far. The Water Park committee met on March 19 to review progress and discuss the water park’s future.
According to the meeting’s minutes, demolition on the former park has not yet begun as the permitting process is ongoing. Committee members discussed the park’s capacity and the ideal targets that would affect the number of required bathrooms or the lifeguard budget.
The current park has a capacity of 1,363 people, but rarely exceeded 900 per day at peak times. The new park will target a peak capacity of approximately 750 people to create the best possible experience and prevent overcrowding — this will also allow builders to increase deck space.
Lifeguard recruiting is expected to begin at the end of 2026.
In addition to park capacity, committee members answered questions regarding water park admission fees. The committee acknowledged that the community felt that ticket prices were too high during the park’s final season in 2023. The committee promised that they’d revisit ticket prices as the park opening gets closer, and they’d still likely have different costs for town and county residents vs. visitors, as well as options for season passes and daily entry.
So far, the $18.5 million water park rebuild is still on track for completion in early 2027. The town aims to open Memorial Day weekend of 2027.
Jonathan Evans, Chesapeake Beach Town Council Member and head of the Water Park Committee, wrote in an email to The BayNet that they see the new water park as a “vibrant centerpiece” of Chesapeake Beach and will help re-solidify it as a community resource. Evans wrote that he envisions the water park as a “destination for family fun and togetherness” that will also help strengthen the economy.
“This project will be something Chesapeake Beach will be proud of and enjoy for the next 30+ years, and I can’t wait to open the gates with the Community to share in the excitement of this unique Town amenity,” Evans wrote.
The town will continue to share important updates about the water park as they’re available.
Water Park committee meetings take place approximately once a month and are open to the public. The meetings are not streamed on the town’s YouTube channel, but updates are provided at Town Council meetings every month. The next Town Council meeting is Thursday, April 16.

Work hasn’t even started on that place and they want to open in 2027? Good luck with that, wonder how much a ticket will be when it does open? Probably 500 a person
I’m really interested in the new rates. To be blunt the old rates were out of reach for many of us locals.
