MECHANICSVILLE, Md. — The Chopticon High School Marching Band has done it again—earning its third consecutive state title at the 2025 Maryland & Virginia USBands State Championships, held on Saturday, Nov. 1, at Paul Russo Stadium at Calvert Hall College High School in Towson.
Chopticon delivered a commanding performance, finishing with a score of 88.3 and sharing the top ranking in the Group 1A division with Northern High School. Both bands were named Maryland 1A state co-champions, according to official USBands results.
To celebrate the victory, the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department escorted the Chopticon Marching Band back to Morganza on Saturday night, honoring the students’ dedication and the community’s ongoing support.
“Thank you Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department for escorting our Marching Band State Champions home tonight! Way to go Chopticon Band!! 3rd year in a row!” the Chopticon High School Band Boosters shared on Facebook.
St. Mary’s County Del. Matt Morgan praised the escort and the band’s success, saying, “This is why I fight so hard to preserve the character of St. Mary’s County. You only find this kind of community support in small-town America. It’s incredibly meaningful to see a volunteer fire department escort for the Chopticon High School Band after winning a state championship. Congratulations to the students, parents and coaches of #ChopNation—the show band of Southern Maryland. And thank you to the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department for making this night unforgettable.”
Rounding out the local successes, La Plata High School also represented Southern Maryland strongly at the championships, earning third place in the Group 1A division with a score of 85.8.
