
LEONARDTOWN, Md. –ย Understanding the primary mission of the Social Work profession is to enhance the well-being and help meet the basic needs of all people, the Commissioners of St. Maryโs County recognized their vital work by proclaiming March National Social Work Month in the county.
Social Workers embody this yearโs Social Work Month Theme, โSocial Workers: Leaders. Advocates. Champions,โ They serve, advocate for and empower millions of Americans every day, including in St. Mary’s County.
โSocial Work is one of the fastest growing careers in the United States, with almost 650,000 members of the profession,โ said Commissioner President Randy Guy. โSocial Workers are the largest group of mental health care providers in the United States who work daily to help people overcome some of societyโs most pressing issues, including substance use disorders and mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety.โ
In declaring National Social Work Month, the commissioners call upon all citizens to join with the National Association of Social Workers in celebration and support of the Social Work Profession.
