LEONARDTOWN, Md. –ย  Understanding the primary mission of the Social Work profession is to enhance the well-being and help meet the basic needs of all people, the Commissioners of St. Maryโ€™s County recognized their vital work by proclaiming March National Social Work Month in the county.

Social Workers embody this yearโ€™s Social Work Month Theme, โ€œSocial Workers: Leaders. Advocates. Champions,โ€ They serve, advocate for and empower millions of Americans every day, including in St. Mary’s County.

โ€œSocial Work is one of the fastest growing careers in the United States, with almost 650,000 members of the profession,โ€ said Commissioner President Randy Guy. โ€œSocial Workers are the largest group of mental health care providers in the United States who work daily to help people overcome some of societyโ€™s most pressing issues, including substance use disorders and mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety.โ€

In declaring National Social Work Month, the commissioners call upon all citizens to join with the National Association of Social Workers in celebration and support of the Social Work Profession.
