LEXINGTON PARK, Md. – On Saturday, August 15th, our local community participated in the worthy cause of cleaning up the grounds of the future site of The Mission-an outreach which provides services such as food, clothing, emergency shelter, computer training, and job placement for homeless men and women in St. Mary’s County. The event was held at the two-story building on Sheriff Miedzinski Way in Lexington Park, MD-which was originally built in the 1950’s and once housed the local telephone company.

Approximately 100 volunteers, including many members of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Department and other local residents, including some of the local homeless, came out ready to clean up the area and make it ready for the big move. Both RIchard Myers, Executive Director of The Mission, and John Harris, President of the Board, stated how excited and blessed they felt by the outpouring of support from the local community.

For the past six years, The Mission has been a labor of love serving homeless men and women of St. Mary’s County. The Mission’s goal is, “to provide for those in need within our community, and to build meaningful relationships with them, while leveraging the power of the Gospel to bring about life-giving change”.

You still have an opportunity to help The Mission through their upcoming virtual fundraiser. Beginning at noon on Friday, August 21st and running through Sunday, August 23rd, the Mission will be holding a 48-hour virtual challenge fundraiser to further the work of the building’s renovation. Donations can be made through The Mission’s Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/themission01 and their website https://seekingshelter.com/
