Anthony Traevon Dawson

CLINTON, Md. – The family of 30-year-old Anthony Traevon Dawson is asking for the public’s help after he was shot and killed Monday night outside a Clinton shopping center in what police are calling a “senseless act.”

Officers responded to the 9800 block of Piscataway Road around 9:40 p.m. on May 12 and found Dawson in a parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Dawson—known to many as Anthony, Traevon, or “Mook”—was a son, brother, father, and friend. Loved ones have launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover funeral costs, raising more than $12,000 of a $16,000 goal through over 180 donations.

“His sudden and heartbreaking passing has left our family devastated and unprepared for the costs of a proper funeral,” relatives wrote. “Every contribution, no matter the amount, brings us closer to honoring his memory with the dignity and love he gave to everyone around him.”

Homicide Unit detectives with the Prince George’s County Police Department continue to investigate the killing. No suspect has been identified and a motive remains unclear. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment. Tips can be shared with detectives at 301-516-2512.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 22, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by a funeral service from 11 a.m. to noon at Lee Funeral Home, 6633 Old Alexandria Ferry Road in Clinton.
