WALDORF, Md. — The family of a 4-month-old girl who died Sunday is calling on the community for support as they work to lay her to rest and care for her grieving mother and siblings.

A GoFundMe titled “Support Serenity’s Family After Tragic Loss” was launched this week in memory of baby Serenity, who relatives say died on Nov. 23 “in unimaginable circumstances.” In the fundraiser, the family writes that their “precious, 4-month-old Serenity left this life and entered the arms of Jesus.”

Serenity is remembered as a beloved daughter, sister and granddaughter who “leaves behind a loving and grieving mother, five siblings that adored her, the best pop-pops and nonna ever, and extended family that will miss her with every breath,” according to the campaign.

“There are no words adequate to describe our grief over losing Serenity,” the family wrote. “She will remain a cherished member of our family until the day each of us goes home to be with her. Her beautiful smile and sweetness remain imprinted upon our hearts.”

Relatives say they are focused on giving Serenity “the way that she deserves” to be laid to rest and on providing stability for her mother and siblings during the holidays. Funds raised will help cover burial expenses and offer “comfort and care” to the family as they navigate “this heartbreaking time.”

“We would deeply appreciate any support in helping this to happen,” the organizers wrote. “We are grateful for your prayers. They are the only thing carrying us through this time. With love for Serenity, and gratitude for any support, thank you.”

As of Wednesday, the GoFundMe had raised $4,129 toward its $5,500 goal from 50 donations.

Authorities have charged Serenity’s father, Jordan Nathaniel Savoy, 28, of Waldorf, in connection with her death. He faces murder and child abuse charges and is being held without bond at the Charles County Detention Center while the case proceeds in court.
