Evey was such a creative and loving young woman. She would want everyone to come ready to laugh and have fun. We want everyone to have that same spirit and energy during this occasion.
In honor of Evey, please wear bright, colorful, and even mismatched clothing.
LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — Community members across Southern Maryland are coming together to support a family following the sudden death of 16-year-old Evey of St. Mary’s County earlier this week.
The teen died Monday, Dec. 15, 2025, after suffering consecutive seizures at her family’s home. Despite immediate lifesaving efforts by family members, friends, and emergency responders, she was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. Her family chose to honor her memory through organ donation.
The loss is especially difficult for her mother, Kris, who previously lost a daughter to leukemia nine years ago. Friends say the family has faced significant challenges this year and is now confronting unexpected funeral and burial expenses.
A GoFundMe campaign organized by family friend Jessica Woolsey of Lexington Park has raised $7,495 toward a $12,000 goal, with more than 100 donations as of Thursday. The funds will help cover transportation from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, cremation services, burial costs, and the creation of a new headstone.
Because an autopsy was required, the teen’s remains are currently being held by the Medical Examiner’s Office. The family has been given a limited timeframe to arrange services, a process made more difficult by the holiday season and limited funeral home availability.
The family has expressed the wish for the teen to be laid to rest alongside her sister. However, the existing headstone does not have space to add another name, requiring the creation of a separate memorial.
As support continues to pour in, the family released a statement thanking the community for its compassion and generosity.
“We are humbled and more grateful than we can say for everyone’s support and donations to assist with laying Evey to rest and support Kris and Liam throughout this time,” the family said. “Evey will join her sister Bryanna’s final resting place on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. at Union Cemetery in Burtonsville, Maryland. Anyone is welcome. Thank you all again for your generosity. We do not have words for our gratitude.”
Local organizations have also shared messages of support. Imaginarium Indoor Playspace, where the teen was formerly a homeschool student, posted a statement saying her sudden passing was “unexpected” and remembering her as someone who “brought light, warmth, and kindness to those around her.” The organization encouraged community members to keep the family in their thoughts as the holidays approach.
Those wishing to contribute can donate through the GoFundMe page: “Help Lay Evey to Rest.”
