NORTH BEACH, Md. — Congressional candidate Terry Jackson will host a “Talk With Terry” event at the Calvert County Public Library, Twin Beaches Branch, on Saturday, Feb. 7.

The event will take place from 1-2:30 p.m. No RSVP is required to attend the event. In a Facebook post announcing the event, Jackson wrote that the purpose of the event was to listen and engage in conversation with the public.

Jackson also wrote in an emailed statement to The BayNet that his event in North Beach is part of a “listening tour” around the 5th district, and he wanted to make sure smaller communities aren’t overlooked.

“A lot of times, people feel like candidates show up, talk at them, and move on,” Jackson wrote in the statement. “These talks are designed to do the opposite. This is a chance to slow that down, listen to people, hear what they’re dealing with, and understand how government decisions affect their day-to-day lives.”

Jackson announced his candidacy for Maryland’s 5th District in November. The 5th District was represented by Steny Hoyer for the last 45 years, before Hoyer announced that he would not seek re-election in the 2026 midterms. The 5th District is a large area encompassing much of Southern Maryland, including Calvert, St. Mary’s and Charles counties, as well as parts of Prince George’s and Anne Arundel counties.

Jackson is running as a Democrat and faces a crowded primary against other Democrats on June 23. Candidates also face a still-evolving congressional map as the Redistricting Commission works to create a new map.

Jackson’s priorities include protecting Social Security and Medicare, improving access to affordable health care, strengthening veterans’ benefits, and supporting Maryland’s working families.

“A lot of folks don’t get clear choices – they get names, slogans, and noise. This is about giving people information, real solutions, and a chance to decide for themselves whether I’m someone they trust to represent them,” Jackson wrote.

  1. where were you when you found out Steny wasn’t seeking reelection? Are we going to have voters thinking there must be some mistake because Stenys not on the ballot.
