BOWIE, Md. — Terry Jackson, a decorated Navy veteran, former federal Physical Security Specialist, husband, and proud father of four daughters, has officially announced his candidacy for the U.S. House of Representatives in Maryland’s 5th Congressional District. Running as a Democrat, Jackson’s campaign centers on restoring trust in government and putting people before politics.
After more than two decades of military and federal service, Jackson says his candidacy is driven by a commitment to honesty, compassion, and accountability.
“For too long, working families, veterans, and seniors have been left behind while the powerful get richer and politicians argue,” Jackson said. “It’s time to bring compassion, accountability, and real leadership back to Congress.”
Jackson’s priorities include protecting Social Security and Medicare, improving access to affordable healthcare, strengthening veterans’ benefits, and supporting Maryland’s working families. As a disabled veteran, he understands the real challenges facing everyday Americans—rising costs, stagnant wages, and the struggle to care for family while maintaining economic stability.
“I’ve lived the struggles that so many Marylanders face,” Jackson added. “I’m not running for power or prestige. I’m running to give a voice to the people who feel forgotten and make government something we can trust again.”
The campaign will focus on grassroots engagement, community dialogue, and rebuilding faith in democratic institutions. Jackson’s message, For the People, Not the Powerful, reflects his lifelong dedication to public service and integrity.

Is this a hint that Steny’s FINALLY retiring…and this is the 1st hat being thrown in?
I do agree the rich politicians keep getting richer…and there needs to be some accountability for their LACK of action. If many of us performed at their level we would have been fired long ago.
I agree with your comment. I encourage you to checkout my campaign website at http://www.terryjackson4congress.com.
Rep. Hoyer has not disclosed whether he is running in 2026 yet or not. With that said, Marylanders cannot wait. We need to be proactive instead of reactive. New candidates are making their voices heard early, because we are frustrated with the status quo. People will never fully agree with any particular candidate on every issue, but I encourage voters to research 5th district candidates and fully support the one that they believe will best represent their constituency.
