“Good Morning Esperanza Middle School Parent/Guardian,
This morning we were made aware of a social media post referencing a shooting at EMS. A picture of this post is included below. We immediately began working with Central Office and the St. Maryโs County Sheriffโs Office to conduct an investigation. At this time, there have not been any substantiated threats against EMS. We will continue to investigate the source of the postings. Also, continue your vigilance and alert us to any information you may encounter. If you see something, say something. The students will have the opportunity to discuss school safety with their teachers and the administrative and counseling team as needed. I am very proud of our students and appreciate their vigilance and willingness to notify adults if they see something that concerns them. Thank you and I will update you if there is additional information.”
Julie Yingling of the SMCSO said that their was no credible threat but their will be a proactive increase in police presence at schools throughout St. Mary’s County.ย
