WALDORF, Md. — A Virginia man was arrested during a traffic stop in Waldorf after deputies said they observed signs of drug impairment and recovered suspected methamphetamine, according to a police report.

The stop occurred about 4:55 p.m. on Dec. 20, 2025, in the 3000 block of Crain Highway near a McDonald’s restaurant, where a Charles County sheriff’s deputy reported seeing a vehicle drift between lanes for roughly half a mile before initiating a traffic stop.

The driver, identified as Gulaid Alim Fatah, 38, of Sterling, Virginia, was the sole occupant of the vehicle. Police said he failed to display his driver’s license when requested and showed indicators of impairment, including dilated eyes, rapid speech, sweating and restlessness.

Deputies conducted standardized field sobriety tests, during which Fatah reportedly had difficulty maintaining balance and following instructions. Based on those observations, he was taken into custody.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of drug paraphernalia, including a bong and a pipe. While being processed at the Charles County Detention Center, deputies said they recovered a small bag containing a crystal-like substance concealed in one of Fatah’s shoes. The substance later tested positive for methamphetamine using a TruNarc analyzer.

In addition to drug-related charges, Fatah was cited for failure to display a driver’s license to a uniformed officer on demand, reckless driving, driving or attempting to drive while so impaired by drugs or alcohol that he could not drive safely, and driving or attempting to drive while impaired by a controlled dangerous substance.

Fatah was transported to Charles Regional Medical Center for a blood draw before being returned to the detention center. He was released on recognizance the same day.

Court records show he is scheduled to appear in Charles County District Court on Feb. 17, 2026, at 9 a.m.
