Debra Ann Welch, “Debbie”, 72, of Abell, MD, formerly of Silver Springs, MD, passed away on December 19, 2025, at her home. Born on August 29, 1953, in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of the late Mary Margaret Duffield and the late James Turner Machen. Debbie was the loving wife of Douglas Welch, whom she married in Leonardtown, MD, on March 25, 2011. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sons, Charles Welch of Abell, MD and Timothy Welch of Hagerstown, MD, her siblings, Diane Hawk of Gaithersburg, MD and Bruce Machen of Richmond, VA, and four grandchildren.
Debbie graduated from Friendly High School and moved to St. Mary’s County, MD in 2010. She was a webmaster for the Centers for Disease Control.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 30th, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with prayers recited at 6:00 PM, in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD, where a funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at 10:00 AM with Pastor Dennis Gillikin officiating.
Interment will follow at Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD. Serving as pallbearers will be Charles Welch, Sherry Welch, Travis Bowes, Richard Winford, Rich Tefft, and Matthew Marshall. Honorary pallbearers will be Lee Fetty, Brian Cornelius, Timmothy Welch, Michael Scafone, Lois Scafone, and Bruce Machen.
