While there have been three public debates/forums between the candidates for county commissioner since the primary election, Commissioner Kenny Dement (R) and his Democratic opponent Elfreda Mathis have only faced off only once.
Dement missed appearances last week at the Lexington Park Library and last night at the College of Southern Maryland in Leonardtown, due to his wife Shirley’s hospitalization, and surgery Monday.
The two debated Oct. 3 at a forum hosted by St. Mary’s College of Maryland.
Dement focused on his record as commissioner, and accomplishments made by the board during his tenure. Mathis urged voters to choose a candidate who will not only listen, but also debate and offer new ideas at the commissioners table.
