LUSBY, Md. — As summer heats up, now’s the time to stay cool—and stay alert—for one of the season’s most unwanted pests: bed bugs. In recognition of Bed Bug Awareness Week, this June 1 – 7, 2025, Home Fixer, LLC is educating the public on the signs of a bed bug infestation and the importance of working with a pest control professional to handle these pests. This annual observance, recognized by the National Pest Management Association (NPMA) and Chase’s Calendar of Events, aims to raise public awareness about bed bugs and how to avoid them.
“Bed bugs are expert hitchhikers and can sneak into your space on luggage, clothing, used furniture, and other personal belongings,” said Norman, owner at Home Fixer, LLC. “These pests can thrive just about anywhere that humans are, including homes, apartments, hospitals, college dorm rooms, office buildings, schools, buses, trains, planes, movie theaters, retail stores, and more.”
Home Fixer, LLC and NPMA are reminding consumers of the tell-tale signs of a bed bug infestation:
- Small, dark fecal spots on mattresses, furniture, and upholstery, especially near cracks and crevices.
- Molted skins, sticky white eggs, or the bugs themselves.
- Red, itchy welts, especially on the legs, arms and other exposed body parts.
Bed bugs are notoriously difficult to eliminate without professional help, as they reproduce quickly and can hide in the smallest of crevices. While their bites can cause itching and discomfort, the emotional toll of an infestation can be just as significant – making early detection crucial. Home Fixer, LLC emphasizes that regular inspection of sleeping areas, especially after travel or receiving secondhand items, is one of the best defenses against a
widespread infestation.
“The sooner you identify a bed bug problem and contact a licensed pest control professional, the easier it can be to manage,” added Stafford.
