Driver Flown To Trauma Center After Car Strikes Pole And Overturns In St. Leonard

ST. LEONARD, Md. – A serious single-vehicle crash occurred in the early hours of May 27, 2024, in the area of Broomes Island and Ball Road.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene around 1:00 a.m., finding the vehicle overturned off the roadway. Remarkably, the driver had managed to self-extricate and had walked approximately a quarter-mile away from the crash site.

EMS evaluated the patient and requested a MEDEVAC. Firefighters established a landing zone nearby for Maryland State Police, Trooper 2, who airlifted the patient to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore for treatment of his injuries.

According to a preliminary investigation, a Cadillac was traveling east on Broomes Island Road when for reasons unknown, struck a pole and overturned.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Maryland State Police Prince Frederick Barrack.
