UPDATEAmbulance Transporting Crash Victim Rear-Ended By Tesla In Leonardtown

LEONARDTOWN, Md. — Emergency crews responded Monday afternoon to a single-vehicle crash that brought down a utility pole and temporarily shut down part of Chingville Road.

The crash occurred around 2:26 p.m., March 31, 2025, near Falling Pines Lane, where a Hyundai Santa Fe veered off the roadway and struck a utility pole, snapping it on impact. Wires were left dangling across the vehicle and down the side of the roadway, prompting a rapid response from fire, rescue, and EMS personnel.

The driver was evaluated at the scene before being transported to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital with injuries.

Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO) was called to the scene to replace the damaged pole and repair the downed lines.

Chingville Road was temporarily closed while crews worked to clear the scene and secure the area. Motorists were urged to avoid the area during the response.

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause of the crash.
