Dunkirk, MD – On Monday, Nov. 7, shortly before 11 a.m. Calvert County responders were dispatched to a single-vehicle crash at Ward Road and Welchpoole Court.

According to Jonathan Riffe of the Dunkirk Volunteer Fire Department (Company 5), crews arrived at the scene “to find a single vehicle into a tree with the passenger trapped.” Crews promptly began efforts to free the trapped motorist. Company 5 crews were subsequently assisted by North Beach volunteers. “Both driver and passenger sides were completely removed, the roof and the dash [were] rolled to free the [passenger], who was heavily trapped,” Riffe stated. “The total extrication took 17 minutes.”

After been freed from the wreckage, the injured motorist was flown to a regional trauma center and the driver was taken to a local hospital by ambulance.

The road, which had been closed foe nearly two hours was reopened sometime around noon. Police are continuing to investigate the crash and no names or further details have been released at this time.ย

The Calvert County Sheriff’s Department has issued a travel alert due to an accident in the area ofย Ward Road at Welchpoole Court ย in Dunkirk.

The roads are currently shut down due to auto accident.
