COLTONS POINT, Md. – Stop by on April 18th from 10AM to 2PM at the St. Clement’s Island Museum site, where students, community members and local partners are coming together for Earth Day!
Dr. James A. Forrest Career and Technology Center students and volunteers will be on site to launch the Bay Observation Box (BOB), their inexpensive, automated water quality monitoring system. Stop by throughout the day to learn about BOB’s role in restoring the Chesapeake Bay watershed and the students’ efforts in designing, building, testing, and promoting the device.
Participants will also have the opportunity to boat out to St. Clement’s Island to take part in invasive species removal and litter cleanup, helping protect this historic and ecologically important site. All necessary supplies will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring their own gardening gloves if they have them, as glove supplies are limited.
Back on the mainland, enjoy a variety of environmental craft activities for all ages, including making pinecone bird feeders, creating native seed balls, and decorating terracotta planters to take home.
This event will take place rain or shine. In the event of severe weather or unsafe conditions that prevent travel to the island, all planned activities will continue on the mainland, ensuring a full day of hands-on learning and Earth Day fun! Environmental craft activities will be hosted inside the Little Red Schoolhouse, providing a warm, sheltered space and guaranteeing these activities are available regardless of the weather.
This is your chance to get involved, get your hands dirty, and make a real impact while celebrating Earth Day a little early! Come learn, create, explore, and help care for the Earth we all love and share.
