CLINTON, Md. — A MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center employee has been recognized with the organization’s highest associate honor for repeatedly taking swift action in critical, life-threatening situations.

Charles J., a patient care technician in the hospital’s Emergency Department, was recently awarded the President’s Pin for his quick thinking and decisive response during multiple medical emergencies, according to hospital officials.

Officials said Charles played a key role in identifying and responding to urgent conditions, including recognizing an unresponsive child in the hospital lobby and detecting early warning signs of stroke and sepsis in patients.

Hospital leadership credited his vigilance and ability to act without hesitation as instrumental in protecting patient safety and improving outcomes.

“His vigilance and willingness to act without hesitation reflect the very best of our commitment to patient safety and care,” officials said in a statement.

The President’s Pin is the highest honor awarded to associates within the MedStar Health system, recognizing individuals who demonstrate exceptional dedication, performance, and impact in patient care.
