A fire that caused extensive damage to a Great Mills home on Sunday afternoon is under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshallโs office. According to Deputy Fire Marshall Jeff Frye, the fire at 21724 Garfield Street started in a bedroom and was reported by neighbors. The one-story, single-family house is owned by Mary Ellen Mattingly.
It took 35 firefighters from Bay District, Hollywood, Second District and Pax River fire departments 20 minutes to bring the blaze under control. Damage is estimated at $75,000 to the home and $5,000 to the contents. The American Red Cross is assisting the homeowner
