UPDATE State Fire Marshal: Wind-Blown Debris Fire Sparks Blaze In Charlotte Hall

CHARLOTTE HALL, Md. – Firefighters and emergency medical personnel responded Tuesday, March 4, 2025, to a structure fire in Charlotte Hall that left two people injured, one of whom was airlifted for treatment.

The fire was reported at approximately 12:36 p.m., in the 38400 block of Pleasant View Drive in Charlotte Hall. Numerous 911 callers reported that a shed or detached garage was engulfed in flames, with the fire spreading to nearby wooded areas.

Upon arrival, fire crews found a 30-by-30-foot detached garage fully engulfed, with flames extending to an attached garage and reaching parts of the main residence. At around 12:51 p.m., responders reported that embers from the house fire had ignited a small brush fire, prompting requests for additional units. The brush fire quickly spread, ultimately burning approximately 2.5 acres before firefighters were able to bring it under control.

Authorities said multiple brush fires continued to spark around the scene, leading to requests for police assistance with traffic and crowd control. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources Forestry Division was also dispatched to assist in containing the fires.

Two individuals sustained burn injuries, with one patient requiring an emergency airlift. A 63-year-old man was transported via helicopter to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore for treatment. The second burn victim was transported to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office and SMECO were also called to the scene to investigate the cause and assess damage.

The American Red Cross responded to assist those affected by the fire, offering emergency relief and support to the victims.

Further details about the extent of the damage and the cause of the fire remain under investigation.
