The owners of the home discovered a fire in the area of the second floor bedroom and the fire quickly spread through the house.
After a two alarm fire department response, the fire was brought under control after 45 minutes.
The investigation revealed a fire that was in the fireplace, used to heat the house’s water, spread to the structural members on the second floor causing the fire to spread into the attic.
The occupants are being assisted by family and members of their community.
Charlotte Hall, MD – Around 2 p.m. Monday, Aug.17, volunteers from multiple jurisdictions and as far away as Virginia were needed for a fire which was rapidly consuming a house located on Fairhaven Road in the Charles County section of Mechanicsville.
Upon arrival of the first dozen or so responders it was soon decided that more companies were needed, which prompted a second alarm. after working the fire for an hour or so, saving the already fire-ravished home became only a hope.
The home was not equipped with any kind of fire suppression system (sprinklers).
No injuries were reported.
