LUSBY, Md. — A Lusby man was arrested and charged with robbery after authorities said he assaulted a delivery driver and stole cash during a confrontation at a Calvert County shopping center.
Adam Joseph Slankard, 31, of Lusby, faces felony robbery and misdemeanor charges including second-degree assault and theft under $100 following an incident reported Jan. 12, 2026, according to the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched around 1:30 p.m. to Calvert Cliffs State Park in Lusby for a reported robbery. The victim told deputies he had just completed a DoorDash delivery at a business along Town Square Drive when he was approached in the parking lot by an unknown man.
According to police, the victim said he had $5 in cash in his hand when the suspect knocked on his vehicle window. When Foster rolled the window down, the suspect punched him in the face, opened the driver’s door and grabbed the cash while demanding money. The suspect then ran across the parking lot and loaded bags into a waiting vehicle, authorities said.
Foster took photographs of the suspect and the vehicle as the man fled, and deputies noted visible injuries to the victim’s face, which were documented at the scene.
Investigators identified the suspect vehicle as a dark gray Subaru Outback registered to a relative. Deputies later identified the suspect as Slankard based on photographs provided by the victim and vehicle registration records.
Later that afternoon, deputies located Slankard at the Cliffs Motor Inn along St. Leonard Road in St. Leonard. He was taken into custody and transported to the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Bureau.
During a recorded interview, police said Slankard admitted to being involved in the confrontation. According to investigators, Slankard told detectives he approached the victim, asking for a cigarette and struck him after becoming angry.
Slankard was transported to the Calvert County Detention Center, where he remains held without bond following a bail review hearing. Court records show a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 12, 2026, in Calvert District Court.
