CALIFORNIA, Md. — The remnants of Tropical Storm Chantal are pushing across the region Monday, July 7, 2025, bringing a renewed threat of flash flooding to parts of Maryland as forecasters warn of locally heavy downpours, especially near the Chesapeake Bay.
The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for central, northeast, northern, and southern Maryland from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., citing the potential for excessive rainfall that could overwhelm creeks, streams, and drainage systems.
Areas under the watch include Anne Arundel, Cecil, Southeast Harford, Southern Baltimore, Calvert, and St. Mary’s counties. According to meteorologists, the storm system could produce rapid bursts of rain capable of flooding roads, low-lying neighborhoods, and other vulnerable spots.
Emergency management officials are urging caution, particularly in coastal areas and urban centers where runoff tends to accumulate quickly. Even a short-lived torrential downpour could make travel dangerous.
Morning conditions were cloudy and damp, but forecasters expect intensifying rainfall by midday as Chantal’s remnants sweep through. Residents are advised to monitor updates and avoid driving through standing water.

DO NOT DEFUND FEMA. Trump administration fired and offered early retirement to key personnel from NOAA and so we have the first one of many tragedies under that move. If you’re taking out the individuals that save American lives by broadcasting emergency alerts and information ahead of life altering catastrophic events, you are not saving lives. Alternatively, if you want to defund the government agency that helps build communities that had succumbed to disaster, that’s not helping Americans. Where’s the “making America great” part? This ain’t it.
