CHARLOTTE HALL, Md. — Nine years ago, one very determined shopper proved that holiday bargains at the dollar store were simply irresistible — even for wildlife.
On Nov. 28, 2016, a beaver wandered into a Charlotte Hall dollar store, apparently eager to get a head start on Christmas shopping. Witnesses said the animal browsed through boxes as if searching for the perfect gift.
Cpl. Yingling of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to the unusual call, and animal control officers safely escorted the furry “customer” out of the store. The beaver was later released to a wildlife rehabilitator, ending its brief but memorable shopping spree.
The incident quickly became a local holiday legend — a reminder that when it comes to Christmas shopping, even beavers know the importance of beating the rush.
